Frisco
02:55
|
|||
She was standing in the corner, all on her blessed own
And all the pretty men were dancing, and all the cats were calico
She was downing nearly empties, from up and down the bar
I think she took my wallet, but I know she stole my heart
And then she looked at me, man I lost control
She said follow me, cause oh its a big city
and tonight is on a roll
We went bouncing 'cross the rooftops, the back streets and the bars
She said she wanted Jupiter, but we ended up on Mars
And all of this will soon be gone, that's plain enough to see
But I believe in now with all my heart, and that's good enough for me
Cause when I looked at her, I could hardly breathe
Then I knew for sure, that she'd be the life and death of me
and I was never gonna leave
Well that was all so long ago, like years from the first floor
And though I'm counting all my blessings, I count Jacksons for even more
A better learned man than I would have left here long ago
But I do believe I'm still in love with you my dearest San Francisco
And then she looked at me, man I lost control
She said follow me, cause of oh its a big city and tonight is on a roll, its on a roll

This Took a While
03:40
|
|||
Well I run the hot water out for days in a row, trying to find the right words, how to let you know
You're better a friend than I probably deserve, would've told you a million times before, had I only had the nerve
But its hard to speak straight from the heart, the truth alone never wrote a song, fiction's always been a part
But regardless of the time it took, I'll talk about you still, or otherwise I'd have no cause to blame you for the water bill
Cause I'd be waiting here for a long time
If i thought someone else would arrive
Nearly as wonderful, beautiful, inside and out you are so kind
And thats hard to come by
I'd be waiting forever, ten times infinity, and whatever, comes after that
Well look at you, you're all grown up, haven't turned out at all half bad
Except for your taste in music, which, frankly put is a little sad
and some of your comments aren't as sarcastic as they seem
But I wouldn't like you half as well if you weren't just a little mean
You aren't really moving all that far, for all it may be worth
Only going a couple hours, it's not like you're leaving planet Earth
So please don't mistake this or some weepy sad goodbye
I doubt that day will ever come, no matter the amount of time
Cause I'd be waiting here for a long time
If i thought someone else would arrive
Nearly as wonderful, beautiful, inside and out you are so kind
And thats hard to come by
I'd be waiting forever, ten times infinity, and whatever, comes after that

Born For The Stage
05:01
|
|||
She was born for the stage, kindness and empathy's daughter
And she never had it her way, so she packed up and never looked back
She found a job on the stage, with the ropes, the trapeze and chains
But she is doing okay, she's suffered no great loss of innocence
I wrote her a letter, i hope that its found
Its way back to her in that hole in the ground
Looking up at the buildings, she's living the dream
But children grow up and the world is not as it seemed
She comes alive on the stage, with the glory of old Angelina
Cause its just like old Angie would say- "Its a hard life, but the only worth living"
She was the queen of the stage, with mascara worn into her smile lines
the heart of that broke down parade, the spotlights never shone any brighter
I wrote her a letter, I see that its found
Its way back to her in that hole in the ground
Looking up at the treetops, the American Dream
The curtains are closing on this one final scene
Oh and she was born for the stage

Scream and Shout
04:03
|
|||
You know you taught me to scream, yeah you taught me to shout,
with the fierce incandescence of a bulb burning out
You said to take no quarter, and call no truce,
finally living for something with everything to lose
Oh I've been bishop to the choir of broken hearts wrong,
rock bottom royalty for far too long
Do you sometimes morse-code sweet little things in the tapping of your Sunday shoes?
I'm caught up in the middle, and I can't get loose
Well I remember the day all the cons finally left,
killed all my inhibitions in our first shared breath
But now I'm trying my hardest to make-believe,
you're unequivocally mine, and I'm all that you need
Cause your skin glowed soft from the inside out,
could have taken you then, I could take you right now
You're the best disaster that could have happened to me,
a game at which I'm willing to lose
I'm caught up in the middle, and I can't get loose.
Can't get loose etc..

Learning To Fly
03:17
|
|||
Girl let your hair down, and I'll watch it fall,
for a split second eternity
You spin in small circles, each turn brings me nearer,
drawn in by your heart's gravity
Well my heart was well guarded, cause things have a way,
of not working out well for me
And we dreamed about airplanes and learning to fly over planets that nobody's seen
And she could fly away on the wings of an angel,
I would say "please don't run into the sun"
"But if you burn down, I'll be waiting to catch you"
Cause these feelings won't burn away, these feelings won't burn away
Well time had no meaning, we were stuck between pages,
of an unexplored chapter of life
You watched the world through your rose-colored glasses,
untouched by the pain and the strife
Oh you floated around, never once touched the ground,
epitome of my desires
We've soared dangerously low, but as everyone knows,
flying is baptism by fire
And she could fly away on the wings of an angel,
I would say "please don't run into the sun"
"But if you burn down, I'll be waiting to catch you"
Cause these feelings won't burn away, these feelings won't burn away
And she could fly away on the wings of an angel,
I would say "please don't run into the sun"
"But if you burn down, I'll be waiting to catch you"
Cause these feelings won't burn away, these feelings won't burn away

Fall Into Guy
08:21
|
|||
You fall into me, and I hope you're ready, cause I'm bound to fall right back
I find love is a mystery, but there's nothing complicated 'bout your back against my back
Or your head on my shoulder, maybe when we're a little older,
It'll be less of a mystery, a malady, or a heart-attack
Cause you make me feel, like a million bucks like I'd weather out a hurricane, stop a moving train, maybe stop making such a fuss about the little things, that'll bring you down, so if you need I could come around, this mutual resemblance of feeling has me high
So if you fall down, I'll pick you back up
Knowing you'd do the same, I can't love that enough
Its just nice to know you've got a friend in this world
So if you break down after shit hits the fan, man I'd be there for you
just to lend you a hand
Im your fall into guy, you're my fall into girl
Setting out on your own,
and when you're finding your own trail you're bound to get a little lost,
Lord knows I've atoned,
so when things get a little heavy, I can help you bear your cross
I'd take the weight just to see you smile,
if its only just for a little while
Man some demons, yeah they follow you, no matter the bridges you've crossed
Cause you make me feel, like a million bucks like I'd weather out a hurricane, stop a moving train, maybe stop giving such a fuck about the little things, that'll bring you down, so if you need I could come around, this mutual resemblance of feeling has me high
So if you fall down, I'll pick you back up
Knowing you'd do the same, I can't love that enough
Its just nice to know you've got a friend in this world
So if you break down after shit hits the fan, man I'd be there for you
just to lend you a hand
Im your fall into guy, you're my fall into girl

String Me Out
06:50
|
|||
Content to be deaf, content to be blind
As long as the truth stays hid behind
Blood-red lips, and a hard-candy smile
Sugar-coated tongue saying stay for a while
Serpentine heart with a flowery face
Rise to glory, fall from grace
you say "nice to see you, how've you been?"
to these bloodshot eyes and this graveyard grin
So come on darling and keep on telling yourself,
that its only collateral damage
And nobody's there to stop you from bleeding,
but I do, I do, I do
So string me out, two sheets to the wind
I would know, the shit shape I'm in
Feeling down, depressed, or insecure?
I'm not your remedy, I'm not your cure
Black me out, cause you don't want to hear
The voice of reality in your ear
If you seek vindication, rest assured
I'm not your colony, Im not your whore
Come on Dorothy, show those eyes
Kansas takes you by surprise
And you wore me out on ruby red shoes
never quite figured out how much you'd lose
So come on darling and burn the olive branch
Right along with the cheap red lipstick
Cause the "means never matter only justified ends"
But I do, I do, I do
So string me out, two sheets to the wind
I would know, the shit shape I'm in
Feeling down, depressed, or insecure?
I'm not your remedy, I'm not your cure
Black me out, cause you don't want to hear
The voice of reality in your ear
If you seek vindication, rest assured
I'm not your colony, Im not your whore

Lessons In Love
03:46
|
|||
She lived just 'round the block from me,
in a ranch-style masterpiece
Unbeknownst to me, I think, for far too long
Couldn't have been much more than a half mile,
between my door and her half-smile,
For a girl like that I'd walk to marathon
Cause she lives in me
Cuts and heals all the wounds,
that nobody else can see
And four long months will so soon
And when the trees burst into bloom
She'll be gone, and I'll be stuck in this head,
with these sad little love songs
And so I took a leap of faith, a virgin to the evening grace
No prayer had crossed my lips before she came
And the luminares they floated past,
like disconnect from Christmas mass
I call my savior by a different name
Cause she lives in me
Cuts and heals all the wounds,
that nobody else can see
And four long months will so soon
And when the trees burst into bloom
She'll be gone, never knowing the love that I held for her
So strong
No wisdom without hardship comes, she scraped her arms pricked her thumbs
On brambles of the fruit she loved so well
He didn't care of didn't try, the way he hung her out to dry,
And hid behind the fears he couldn't quell
But she lives in me
Cuts and heals all the wounds,
that nobody else can see
And four long months will so soon
And when the trees burst into bloom
She'll be gone, and I'll be left with these lessons in love,
and a sad song

Red Letter Eulogy
04:34
|
|||
Its a little surprising, big things happen so quietly
The heart's realignment is like a red letter eulogy
And I can still see the afterglow and love on your breath
Through the fog all I saw were the rows of remembrance,
and all you see is death
And so the world keeps on turning around,
you say you've found love like it was bound to be
You spent a long time hiding alone in your family tree,
but this last song baby is for you and me
December's long fingers beat hard on the window-panes
My thoughts are disorganized, broken little trains
He's been hurting you for a while now, the little bird in her cage is now dead
And I'm too scared to help you try and go without it,
my heart beat down my head
And so the world keeps on beating you down,
But I'll be there to patch up the holes when your ship goes down
Its been a long time since anybody thought about setting you free
But this last song, baby, is for you and me
It wasn't surprising everything happened naturally,
and this is a new horizon, chance for things to end more happily
I remember September, the leaves on the trees, and the love that I've repressed
You know the dearest of things, well they'll leave you cold if you don't hold them to your chest
And so the world keeps on turning around,
Our lives are entwined, loving seems bound to be
Its been a long hard road full of heartbreak, potholes, and misery,
But this last song baby is for you and me
This last song baby is for you and me
