about

I would like to dedicate this song to my high school bus driver, Bill. I wrote this song while waiting at the bus stop one morning, when i noticed a bird in the tree opposite me. It's a song about little gems of experience that stick out from the mundanity of everyday life and keep us going. This song was tragically prescient, as Bill passed away soon after I wrote this song. I believe he embodies the 'man driving fast' in the second verse in a very spooky way.

lyrics

There's the nest of a bird
In the tree where I stand
As I wait for the bus in the morning
to come round the bend
It's 7:03
I confess that I'm barely alive
But this week's bound to end sometime soon
And I think I'll survive

There's a man driving fast
The guilt of a thief on his face
But no one stops to bother him
Or ask his designs
And the only pursuit
Is the one in his head
This self-proclaimed thief has been stealing
A life's worth of time

There's a girl in a pool
Wears a life vest wherever she goes
After taking a dive
She's been wary of life's undertows
Held down without air
Or any way to emote
So this bright orange lifebuoy heart
Is what keeps her afloat
