This song was written following the unfortunate drowning of a recent high school graduate from my school. Although I wasn't well acquainted with her, the community response I felt was incredible, and inspired me to write this. I wrote the verses from the perspective of a community mourning a lost member, and the chorus as the reaction that I had personally. Rather than being a memorial, Time is a reminder of the ephemerality of life, and it hopefully communicates the importance of living a happy life.
lyrics
Sister, you're moving on
Past the old town,
over water where your body drowned
The sky is torn apart,
It's lightning inside our hearts
As mind and body seem to drift apart
But the sun comes up and I start worrying,
That my time's almost gone
Sun comes up and I start worrying
But I'm not beaten down
Cause oh, time's out to get you
Oh, don't let it win
Oh, time's bound to get you
In the end
There's a draw in the game
It's coming down like I've never seen it rain
Even the heavens seem to mourn your name
And we've gathered down here below
Holding brothers and sisters close
Throwing flowers in the alpenglow
